About The Event

"The Past as It Should Be"

(Choreographed and directed by Semimaru of the Butoh group Sankaijuku)

Kokuto-in is a Butoh troupe founded by Semimaru, a founding member of the internationally active Butoh group Sankaijuku, in 1990. The group gathers a diverse group of performers for each production, creating works tailored to the specific location. Since 1999, they have maintained a studio in the Kurobe River basin in Toyama Prefecture, where they have been holding annual summer Butoh workshops and performances.

For this performance, several members of Sankaijuku, including Semimaru, as well as guest artists and workshop participants (those who took part in the summer camp), will be performing. Please enjoy the world of yugen (mysterious and subtle beauty).

This is part of the tour program supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service, and Sport.
